	New Haven Township was first organized in 1863, then New Haven Center, with Joseph Wiles, its first postmaster. It existed until 1904, with the name remaining with the township. This is a rural, agricultural area with flat, fertile farmland producing large crops of dry beans, as does much of Gratiot County.
